Country Fiddle

With crisp, energetic lines and remarkable observational grace, Country Fiddle captures a lively cross-genre moment in the heart of New Orleans. Executed live on-location in 2021, this original pen and ink study depicts a fiddle player driving the rhythm for a jazz ensemble inside a French Quarter club. Al Sprague drew the piece firsthand while listening to the band, recording the musician's focused posture, bow technique, and stage presence. Created as a foundational study for a future major painting, Country Fiddle offers collectors a rare, intimate connection to Sprague’s creative process and the rich, diverse sounds of Crescent City nightlife.
