Lady Luck

With fluid, confident linework, Lady Luck captures the magnetic presence and commanding soulful energy of a New Orleans jazz band's lead songstress. Sketched live on-location inside the famous BMC (Balcony Music Club) in 2020, Al Sprague drew the vocalist mid-song as her voice filled the room. This original pen and ink study served as the direct foundation for a later full-scale acrylic painting of the same name. Rich in atmosphere and expressive line, Lady Luck offers fine art collectors an authentic, firsthand glimpse into French Quarter music culture and Sprague’s masterly observational technique.
